As Chevy EV models become more and more prevalent, learning how to maintain and charge them will become just as important as learning how to swap a flat tire. It may seem daunting to the uninitiated, but charging EV models is as easy as refueling a gas engine. Follow along as Keyes Chevrolet covers how to locate and utilize EV charging stations to keep your Chevy EV topped off.
Types of Charging Stations
Charging stations can be divided into three categories, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 DC Fast Charging. Level 1 charging stations use a standard 120-volt outlet and are the slowest of the lot. Level 2 charging stations decrease charging times by employing a higher-power 240-volt outlet but require special installation by an electrician. Level 3 DC Fast Charging stations are the fastest, charging your battery in about half an hour, but can unfortunately only be found commercially.
Locating a Charging Station
When you’re out and about and need a recharge, you can find charging stations near you using the myChevrolet® mobile app or any number of third-party EV charging apps. Electric Chevrolet vehicles have access to over 400,000 charging stations across the United States, so navigate to the nearest available spot and set up your car for charging.
Charging Your Chevy EV
Once you find a charging station, you’ll want to park your vehicle in the designated spot and plug the charging cable into the charging port. Your vehicle’s dashboard will briefly illuminate, estimating how long the recharging will take. Once filled, the charging will stop automatically to prevent overcharging the battery. Simply unplug, return the cable to its holder, and be on your way!
