If you’re seeking the toughest, most durable, and most work-ready pickup trucks on the market, you likely have your eye on both Chevy HD (heavy-duty) trucks and RAM HD trucks. While both automakers offer trucks with impressive towing, hauling, and power, Chevrolet HD trucks have the edge in a few key areas. The dealers at Chevrolet Van Nuys are happy to delve into the differences.

Engine Options

First of all, Chevrolet HD trucks come in two models: the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD. Both of these models come with a wide range of powerful engines, including a 6.6-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel V8 engine that’s good for 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque.

Like the Chevrolet trucks, the heavy-duty RAM trucks also offer a few different models, specifically the 2025 RAM 2500 and the 2025 RAM 3500. While the available 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel is certainly powerful, its 370 max horsepower and 850 lb-ft of max torque fall well short of the output numbers found on the comparable Chevrolet truck models.

Towing and Hauling Capacity

If you’re buying a heavy-duty truck, you’re likely seeking something to tow and haul impressive amounts. This is another area where the 6.6-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel V8 engine excels. If you opt for this engine, the truck can tow up to 22,340 pounds. The Chevrolet truck also has some helpful towing assist features such as Tow/Haul mode, automatic grade braking, and an in-vehicle trailering app.

On the other hand, the RAM 2500 also has an impressive towing capacity of 19,990 pounds, but unfortunately, this number again falls short of the Chevrolet truck’s capacity.
