While small crossover SUVs are becoming increasingly popular, some Los Angeles area drivers require more than two rows of seating. This is why large SUVs such as the Chevy Suburban have retained their utility throughout the years, and here at Keyes Chevrolet, we have the newest version of the full-size SUV, the 2021 Chevy Suburban, on our lot. Here is a comparison between the Suburban and another full-size SUV, the 2021 Ford Expedition.
Independent Rear Suspension
One of the biggest difference-makers in the 2021 Chevy Suburban is its new independent rear suspension. While it may not sound like a flashy feature, it allows the Chevy SUV to have expanded interior space and legroom compared to previous models, as well as a smoother drive.
Having an independent rear suspension allows for a lower floor, which makes it easier to load cargo and allows for added room in the cargo area and the second- and third-row seats. In total, the Chevy Suburban offers a maximum of 123 cubic feet of storage, compared to 105 cubic feet for the Expedition.
Powerful Performance
Looking under the hood of the 2021 Chevy Suburban, you’ll find one of three available engines. The most powerful is a 6.2-liter V8 which pumps out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Expedition has two available engines, with the more powerful one falling short at 400 horsepower. A couple of additional features that you’ll find on the Chevy Suburban but not the Ford Expedition are available air-spring suspension and adaptive dampeners, both of which improve the steering and handling.
